This project is located in the Atlantic hurricane zone of the Dominican Republic, which suffers seasonal hurricane strikes all year round. Unlike conventional projects, the dry-type transformers for this project are required for open-air outdoor installation with a wind resistance capacity of 63 m/s. Calculated per meteorological standards, this wind speed exceeds the threshold for Category 17 super hurricanes. In addition, the batch of equipment shall withstand extraordinary operating conditions including heavy rainfall, high humidity and severe salt spray corrosion. The cabinet of these transformers is required to achieve C5H anti-corrosion protection level together with IP54 outdoor ingress protection rating, and the transformers shall also meet temperature rise requirements when operating inside of these IP54 cabinet.
Faced with such extreme operating conditions, the project team together with technical engineers carried out special research and development from multiple dimensions including structural reinforcement of products, anti-corrosion coating system and sealing & protection design. Finally, with full witnessing by the client’s supervision team, all factory acceptance tests of the transformers were successfully completed. All performance indicators meet or exceed the requirements specified in the technical specification, winning unanimous recognition and positive feedback from the supervision team!
